Good news for Ted Lasso fans—the beloved soccer comedy is officially returning for a fourth season! Apple TV+ announced the renewal, bringing Jason Sudeikis back as the ever-optimistic coach, this time taking on a new challenge in the world of women’s football.
Sudeikis, who also serves as an executive producer, shared his excitement for the new season:
“In Season 4, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to leap before they look, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”
A Surprise Return for Ted Lasso
Originally debuting in August 2020, Ted Lasso was initially planned as a three-season story, ending with Ted returning home to Kansas in the Season 3 finale. However, in a recent interview on the New Heights podcast with Travis and Jason Kelce, Sudeikis revealed the unexpected twist—Ted will now be coaching a women’s team.
“It’s daunting because we told the story we wanted to tell. But there’s more there,” Sudeikis admitted.
Who’s Returning to the Cast?
While Apple TV+ has yet to confirm a premiere date, the return of several key players has been hinted at. Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent) will be back as both a writer and executive producer. Additionally, Deadline previously reported that Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton) and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins) have signed deals to return.
The show’s other stars have expressed interest in reprising their roles, and much of the original creative team—including most of the writers—will be involved. Veteran TV producer Jack Burditt (Nobody Wants This) is also joining as an executive producer.
A Cultural Phenomenon Returns
Born from an NBC Sports ad campaign, Ted Lasso became an unexpected hit during the COVID-19 pandemic, offering humor, warmth, and a much-needed dose of optimism. The series has won 13 Emmy Awards and remains Apple TV+’s most successful show to date.
With the world still facing challenges, the return of Ted Lasso feels perfectly timed. Fans can expect more heartfelt moments, humor, and inspiring messages when Season 4 finally arrives.
